Saturday's storm caused damage that spread across about half of Central Park’s 843 acres, making it the worst devastation the park has seen in 27 years. As many as 1,000 trees may be lost to the freak October snowstorm. The combination of the damp heavy snow falling on leaves that had not yet fallen for winter caused limbs to break and felled entire trees.
The Central Park Conservancy is making every effort to begin park restorations. The Halloween storm will cost the Conservancy hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of clean-up. Please visit their website to donate to the 2011 Halloween Storm Fund here.
