Softball in the park is a Broadway tradition that stretches back to the mid 1950s, where stars, stage hands, and back-of-office meet up to play every Thursday. The season starts at the end of April and runs through the end of August or early September, depending upon the weather and how many games get called off. The teams are broken up into three divisions, with the first game starting at 11:30AM, followed by games at 1:30 and 3:30. Most games are played on the Heckscher playfield. This year you might see Andy Karl playing for the On The 20th Century team, or Corey Cott, the handsome leading man of Gigi. Past players have included Al Pacino, Glenn Close and Patrick Wilson. Last summer Bryan Cranston would come out and cheer for his team, All The Way.
NewYork.Com posted an article interviewing the various team members, which includes pictures from some of this year's game and the players. Recently, each team submitted two players to play on the annual League’s All-Star Game, Times Square Slammers, vs. the Broadway Bombers. In the tradition of great ball, the Times Square Slammers beat the Broadway Bombers with a walk off home run. To find out more about the upcoming games, please visit the Broadway Show League website.
