With record-breaking 92-degree heat on Wednesday, April 7th, it is certain that Spring has officially made its appearance in New York City this year. And with the great weather, the lawns and ballfields of Central Park officially opened for the season on Saturday, April 10th.
All park-goers are welcome to toss Frisbees on the Great Lawn or read a book in the Sheep Meadow. Also, baseball and softball players should be happy to learn that all three ballfield areas, Heckscher, Great Lawn and North Meadow West Side, have diamonds ready for action. (Note that fields 6-12 on the North Meadow East Side will open on Saturday, April 24th).
Also, permits for baseball and softball leagues and teams are required and are issued through the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. Call 212-407-0226 for more details of getting a permit.
