The full details of the five-day celebration in honor of the late Pete Seeger and his wife, Toshi, will be released on April 30. What is known is that a central event, "Songs of Justice: An Evening Honoring Pete Seeger" will be held at SummerStage's Ramsey Playfield in Central Park on July 21.
Kitama Cahill-Jackson, grandson of the Seegers, and Gina Belafonte, daughter of musician Harry Belafonte, will host the event. It will feature a wide array of artists from many different genres, all committed to social change.
"The goal of SummerStage is to show the next generation of music and activism," Cahill-Jackson told the Journal. "So many people think of my grandfather as a folk musician, when he really felt that each group of people has its own form of folk music. The guitar and banjo is his, but it doesn't mean that hip-hop isn't just as valid an art form that shouldn't be celebrated."
