For nearly six months, the ownership of Central Park's landmark restaurant, Tavern on the Green, have been up in the air. Finally, on Thursday, May 20, 2010, the negotiations between both parties, Dean J. Poll, potential owner, and Peter Ward, president of the Hotel and Motel Trades Council, came to an unsuccessful end.
However, in hopes to keep Tavern on the Green alive in the interim, New York City mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, has proposed that the restaurant become a snack bar, visitors center and retail store. He said that the venue will operate similarly to the Dairy in the Central Park.
