May 16th, 2023 - A restoration project is scheduled to commence this summer in the Ramble, according to the Central Park Conservancy. The project aims to reintroduce two rustic structures that will provide resting spots for visitors while offering scenic views. The Ramble originally had four wooden shelters and viewing points, of which only one remains today. The reconstructions will faithfully replicate the original designs.
The first structure, called the Umbrella Structure, will be located at the south end of the Ramble, offering a shaded seat and a fence, overlooking Bow Bridge. The foundation for this structure will be laid in the upcoming summer, with work pausing during the fall due to bird migrations, and completion expected in the winter.
