New Yorkers are very protective of their green space, even if it is located right next to Central Park. DNAinfo New York reports, that the Museum of Natural History want to add a 218,000-square-foot Gilder Center for Science, Education and Innovation which would expand into the adjacent Theodore Roosevelt Park.
A group has been formed, Defenders of Teddy Roosevelt Park Inc., to stop the destruction of this space, and a town hall meeting was recently held to protest the destruction of this green space.
Not everyone who attended the meeting was opposed to the expansion of the museum. Some feel with Central Park being one block away and Riverside Park a few blocks in the other direction, that the loss of this space would not be missed. The next step for the plan is a decision from Community Board 7, though the proposal has not yet been calendared by the board.
