The NY Times writes how Tony Bennett has been painting since he was 8 years old in Astoria, Queens. At age 89, he loves to go into Central Park and paint the scenic views.
He was recently spotted earlier this month painting by a southern entrance to the park, with a brass box containing a palette resting against the heel of his left hand. A small water pot lay on the bench. Beside it, a satchel with brushes and materials. He was painting a spot that he had never painted before.
Mr. Bennett studied painting as a teenager at the High School of Industrial Arts on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and painted in Central Park for homework assignments. From his apartment on Central Park South, he is able to look out over Central Park and decide where he wants to go in the park to paint. He is especially attracted to the park in the fall, with its vibrant colors.
