June 12th, 2025 - A rare romance has been unfolding in Central Park, between a male wood duck and a female mallard. Since January 2025, the wood duck has aggressively courted and protected his mallard mate, and their affectionate bond has captivated birdwatchers.
Such mixed-species relationships are uncommon, according to birding experts.
It is unclear at this time whether they have produced hybrid ducklings.
