May 20th, 2025 - In July 1971, Carly Simon made a striking live debut at the annual Schaefer Music Festival concert series in Central Park, a performance later featured in the ABC TV special Good Vibrations from Central Park.
Despite her well-known stage fright, Simon delivered confident renditions of her early hits “Anticipation” and “That’s the Way I Always Heard It Should Be.” Simon began her set playing an acoustic 12-string guitar before moving to piano for the introspective ballad.
The concert also featured performances by Ike and Tina Turner, Boz Scaggs, and Kate Taylor, with music icons Art Garfunkel and George Harrison among the audience.
The televised concert remains a memorable snapshot of Simon’s early rise in the music world.
