Softball & Baseball Pickup Games

There are 26 ballfields for baseball or softball in Central Park.

All three areas where the ballfields are located are suited for softball: 

  • The Great Lawn - 8 fields - Mid-Park at 81st-85th Streets  map
  • Heckscher Ballfields - 6 fields - Mid-Park at 63rd-65th Streets  map
  • North Meadow - 12 fields - Mid-Park at 97th-102nd Streets  map

While both baseball and softball games are played on the North Meadow which can boast regulation pitching mounds. 

All fields are available for pickup games without a permit, if you're feeling lucky. A permit is the only way to ensure your game is not interrupted. For more information about ballfields and permits, visit the NYC Parks website.

If you’re planning a field day, game tournament, birthday party, or any other type of event that includes activities beyond the use of a field, you’ll need to request a special event permit from NYC Parks.
