Spring sunset, Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill is a popular destination for enjoying views of the Lake.
Located on a gentle slope just west of Bethesda Terrace is Cherry Hill, one of Central Park's most beloved and scenic spots.
Named for the cherry trees that bloom in bright pinks and whites each spring, this hillside offers sweeping views overlooking the Lake, Bow Bridge, and the Ramble. Its grassy lawn is perfect for picnics, sunbathing, reading, or simply enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
At the top of Cherry Hill is Cherry Hill Fountain, designed by Jacob Wrey Mould, the same designer of the Bethesda Fountain. Unveiled in the 1860s as a watering trough for horses, the fountain, with its granite base and ornate cast-iron detailing crowned by eight frosted lamps and a golden spire, remains the centerpiece of the circular plaza that it stands in. Though no horses drink from the fountain today, this elevated location is still a popular resting spot for horse carriages, pedicabs, and park-goers who wish to get a splendid view of the Lake.
