Hallet Nature Sanctuary
The Hallett Nature Sanctuary is one of three woodland areas of the park.
Location: MAP | East Side from 60th-62nd Streets, just south of Wollman Rink Hours: Open daily, 10:00 AM until 30 minutes before sunset.
Hallett Nature Sanctuary is a four-acre nature preserve located just northwest of the Pond at 5th Avenue and Central Park South.
It has a single entry and exit point, specific opening and closing hours, and a limit on how many people are allowed within the area.
Once closed for over 80 years to protect its bird population, this natural retreat was restored and reopened in 2016.
Visitors will find several walking paths that intertwine and lead to scenic viewpoints, a small waterfall that drops into the Pond, and rest spots with rustic hand-hewn benches to sit amongst the migratory and year-round birds and wildlife.
No dogs, bicycles, or strollers are permitted.
