Frisbee is the perfect compact enjoyment game for a day in Central Park!
Frisbee is a classic game - and one of few whose equipment can easily be carried in a backpack or purse, making it ideal for an all-day New York adventure.
Central Park has several fields that are ideal for playing Frisbee. The North Meadow, Great Lawn, and Sheep Meadow are all large enough to stage a game. However, you must be mindful of other park patrons. In busy spots, it is best to keep the game to two or three people. Avoid areas with many trees, and stay away from the lakes and ponds if you don't want to lose your disc.
Ultimate Frisbee tournaments occur every Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Great Hill, near Central Park West and 106th Street. This organized sport version of Frisbee is competitive and fast-paced. If you are looking for a unique New York experience that lets you interact with the locals, this is a good choice.
Even if you don't bring a Frisbee to the park, you can still play. Just go to the North Meadow Recreation Center to borrow a field day kit. All kits include a Frisbee, and you only need a valid photo ID to borrow one.
