Central Park has both sand courts and asphalt courts for volleyball.
Volleyball in Central Park is an excellent way to stay active and socialize, and it is particularly popular in summer. However, players can also take advantage of the courts throughout the year, weather permitting.
Where to Play
Courts are located in two main areas within the park. East of Sheep Meadow, you'll find two sand courts and two asphalt courts. Additionally, there are two asphalt courts northeast of the Great Lawn.
These locations offer scenic views and easy access, making them ideal for both casual and competitive play.
What to Bring
For games on asphalt courts, remember to bring your own net. The sand courts have nets already set up. All players must bring their own volleyballs, as the park does not provide them. It's also a good idea to dress appropriately for outdoor play depending on the season.
Permits
Volleyball courts are free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis for informal play. However, if you're part of an organized group or want to secure a specific court at a particular time, you'll need to obtain a permit. You can check the field and court permit availability map for more information. Permits are necessary for tournaments and special events to ensure fair access and organization.
